With EU leaders now travelling to Abidjan to meet with their African counterparts, there are hopes of forging more far-reaching goals. There are discussions about the need to create a new partnership that will recognize the differing needs of Europeans and Africans.

With Africa's population set to double by 2050, the main objective for Europeans is to avert the threat posed by irregular migration by strengthening development and cooperation on the ground. Africans, on the other hand, are calling for EU policy development to recognize them as equals, and to be treated with respect as partners. It is a difficult balance. ...

Islamic Jihad, Hamas strike Israeli forces from within Gaza. Arutz Sheva:
Terrorists operating in the Gaza Strip fired at least a dozen mortar shells at an IDF engineering team inside Israeli territory near the border with Gaza Thursday afternoon, prompting the Israeli military to respond with airstrikes and tank fire.

Twelve mortar shells were fired at the engineering team which was carrying out work near the Gaza border fence. No injuries were reported, but the sudden attack prompted temporary shutdowns of the train system in Ashkelon and Sderot.

Gen. John Nicholson, the commander of the U.S-led NATO forces in Afghanistan, said Islamabad has yet to take action against the Afghan Taliban sanctuaries in Pakistan where the group’s “senior leadership still resides.”

US ambassador discusses Baghdad relations with KRG PM Nechirvan Barzani. Rudaw:
The US Ambassador to Iraq Douglas Silliman and the KRG Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani discussed the outstanding issues between the Kurdish and Iraqi governments including the Kurdish share of the 2018 Iraqi draft budget bill, a statement released by the KRG on Thursday read.

Ambassador Silliman, accompanied by the US Consul General Ken Gross in Erbil, was hosted by PM Barzani and other senior Kurdish officials in Erbil including Deputy PM Qubad Talabani.

The delegation discussed the latest political and security developments in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region as well as “the draft budget bill of the federal Iraq.”
