Ginmar has posted a very thoughtful piece on her ongoing experiences with sexism as a female US soldier in Iraq. She has to deal with all forms of sexism from bemused "toleration" to outright misogyny. She also has some insights on the fear of single women, both in Mideastern and in Western society: the unmarried woman is not a "femme couverte" whose identity is subsumed in her husband's, but an independent being. Small wonder, then, that Ginmar looks forward to the autonomy of living alone after returning Stateside. Read the post here.
